What I loved: College AU, tons of angst with Tony’s Starky baggage. Some really really hot sex scenes. Steve and Tony being good to and for each other, right up until Tony’s last name catches up with him. Tony having a not-superhero-y revelation. The BEST WEDNESDAY EVER.

What I loved:  This is, like, Romeo and Juliet levels of star-crossed lovers fucking up their own lives. They are SOOOOOO in love. And they made the WORST life choices.  And they are able to absolutely destroy each other with those shitty decisions.  :(    Tons of BAMF!Steve throughout with Tony doing his Iron Man thing by the end so he can show everyone exactly how BAMF is actually done.

What I loved: ahhhhhhh!  MCU retake where Tony helps Steve play hookie from SHIELD after being defrosted and they are friends and more before the events of Avengers happens.  Tony at his mischievous and charming best.  Steve with a glimmer of a chance of actually being happy and well-adjusted in the future.  Then heartbreak, the Chitauri battle goes horribly off script.  Angst, pining, so much whump.  But Tony is Not To Be Underestimated!

This is just everything I want from a near-canon Stony fic.  This is why i am here in the first place!!

What I loved:  Oh man do I not like Howard. And oh man do I love reading fic where he is the villian -yes, finally, let’s confront exactly what a POS he is!! Imagine Howard DIDN’T die in ‘91.  Imagine what a nasty piece of work he is by the time Tony is Iron Man.  Yeaaaaaah.  Then remember who would be personally administering the yearly Capsicle hunt in that situation.  Yup.  Poor Tony.  Poor Steve.  Thankfully, while Steve is disoriented, he is not an utter idiot. Battle buddies, evil Howard, Steve’s bullheaded devotion to the Right Thing (double edged as that can be).  All the good stuff.

What I loved: fun Percy Jackson AU. Absolutely delightful amounts of mad scientist, secret marshmallow Tony.  Steve is so bull-headed he should be a minotaur.

What I loved:  Excellent way to scratch the fake relationship trope itch.  Steve reach So Done levels of annoyed.  The boys essentially psychologically pranking the team.

What I loved:  mmmmm…identity porn…..  Oh Tony no, stop doing this to yourself.  Steve is very romantically confused and disappointed, right up till he isn’t.

What I loved: This is more of a Tony & Edwin Jarvis fic than a slash fic, but oh god.  If you don’t tear up, you are made of stone.  Plus, Jarvii interactions!!!  Double the smooth, understated sass!!

What I loved:  Oh man, this is why I started shipping this in the first place.  These two are just soooooo starry-eyed over each other.  This gives me all the feels and is the perfect counter to all the CACW and A:IW angst and general MCU bullshit.  It does my heart good to see them both a bit fucked up, but they actually CARE and DO SOMETHING about each other’s pain.  I live in this AU now.

What I loved: This is the most painstaking, well-crafted, detailed look into who MCU Tony believes himself to be.  It is perfectly well-done and just screams “labor of love.”

What I loved: Oh Tony, no. Misunderstandings galore.  Fuckbuddies to lovers.  This line: 

      Tony shakes his head, slow and disbelieving. He tries and fails to fight back a smile. “I’d love to,” he says. “Steve, c’mon. You’re Steve Rogers. I let you pick me up in a biker bar and take me to a Motel 6. I’ll go to any damn art exhibit you want.”

The specifics: 616 fic -a breath of fresh air in all the MCU stuff.  YAY!  These dumb boys.  Good thing they are both cute.  The Avengers have The Talk.  You’re going to loooove the content.

What I loved: Okay, wait, how on Earth had I not run across this before??!!  I think I kept seeing the title and confusing it with another Noir story and shame on me, because I’ve been missing out.  Noir! Sentinels/guides!!  Tiny!Steve pulling the spitting angry kitten act on the whole damn world, up to and including Tony’s evil ex’s, all while swooning over Noir!Tony.

What I loved: Steve is smart.  Steve is motivated.  Steve WILL fight dirty.  Featuring a very very bewildered Tony who is not sure why this is his life, but is 100% okay with the results.

What I loved: Tony is at his absurd best and is utterly smitten with Steve.  Steve is at his tongue-tied and easily-riled best and is utterly smitten with Tony.  Peggy is BAMF and has no time for idiots.  Bonus Peggy as Tony’s Aunt Peggy, which I ADORE.

What I loved: Such Sad Boys.  I mean, it’s 616 post CW, what was I expecting??  They are both such messes, but miraculously, they have both decided to finally do the emotional adulting and man does that EVER work out well for them :)  Also, damn this is hot.

What I loved:  Fluffy Skrulls?!  It’s true!!  I am agog.  Nice heartwrenching vignette of supposed unrequited love.  Happy endings all around!

What I loved: I LOVE scifigirl47′s Steve.  He is so freaking adorable.  He blushes and fumbles, then goes all Cap and is as Extra as humanly possible.  Also, sci’s BANTER.  There is NOTHING like sci’s banter and it is at its very best when Tony is rambling and Steve is being cheeky.

What I loved: Truth spells are actually kind of horrifying and have a lot of squick potential - ALL of the characters here recognize this.  They aren’t perfect, but they are trying so hard to handle this right.  Tony is a fabulous mix of hot mess, sassy snark, and 100% Good Boi.  Great description of Steve’s art.

What I loved: Memory loss leads to a mystery!  Tony and Steve investigate…themselves.  :)   The romance is so soft and sweet and like, god damn it, I couldn’t decide if I was getting cavities or needed to hug a puppy.  The plot twist will just stomp all over your heart.

What I loved: In character Ults without giving me second-hand depression.  Yaaaaaasss.  Tony is seducing everything but the floor lamp. How has Steve not ground his teeth down to nothing by now?  President!Cap!!!!!!  Tony fbeing hyper competent as part of President!Cap’s team!!!!  Super hot ending.

What I loved:  This is a really fun AU of Tony REALLY not wanting the SI legacy, taking avoidance to a whole new level, and how he eventually confronts the reality of being Stark 2.0.   All while the boys pine over each other (RIGHT IN FRONT OF EACH OTHER!!!  GDI, USE YOUR WORDS) and Bucky gives a guest appearance as Tony’s self-deprecating inner voice brought to life.

 

My True Love Gave to Me by thegraytigress

What I loved:  Tony is THE most extra when it comes to gifts.  Always.  Add in a Tony absolutely besotted with Steve and determined to make this the bestest, shiniest, most fun Christmas season for Steve….woah.  Tony is pulling out all the stops, Steve is uncomfortable and intimidated, the entire team is cheerleading from the sidelines, and the boys just love each other so damn much.  Happy, fluffy, romantic, with just a twist of entirely unnecessary angst.

Protect, Defend, Avenge by laireshi

I almost did not read this, because the HydraCap idea is just…wow Marvel, gross.  But I love laireshi’s work and decide to go for it, trusting that such a good writer would not do the readers wrong.  Justified!

Without giving it away - excellent use of Marvel canon elements to make this a good story that in no way betrays the tenets of Steve’s character/legacy.  Touching look at Steve & Tony pining/get together/working through the bullshit of 616 together.  Loved it.  :)

Straight on Til Morning by Sineala

What I loved:   Oh God. Tony Stark in space.  In STAR TREK SPACE.  It would have been worth it just that!  But no, we get Steve Rogers and Tony together on a crew, pining, and fighting alongside a cast of other Avengers.  Both of them get a fabulous backstory that preserves key elements of the classic characters but which are new and exciting interpretations.  All kinds of great reveals and suspense. 

This is the first time I have read fic set in the Star Trek universe and it gave me a whole new appreciation for that world. 

This is going to be on the regular reread rotation.  It’s just beautiful.
